Northern Pass

Northern Pass tickets make bus travel easy! The Northern Pass can be used for multiple rides, which is valid on all North Shore bus services as far as Albany in the North and Greenhithe in the West. Additionally, you can use it on buses to and from Auckland City, as well as on train services between Britomart and Glen Innes, or Britomart and Newmarket , Ellerslie or Kingsland.

With a Northern Pass, you only have to buy one ticket to make any number of trips around the North Shore - as well as to and from Auckland City - for as long as your ticket is valid. The Northern Pass is not a ticket for a specific journey. You pay once and keep the ticket to use again and again.

This means you can get on a bus in your neighbourhood, get off where you like and catch another bus or selected train service, as many times as you wish within your selected area and time frame. You don't have to buy a new ticket when you board a different bus, even if the vehicle belongs to a different bus company.

NOTE: Northern Pass does not replace any existing ticket offered by your usual bus operator. You can continue to travel using the same type of ticket as before, if that suits you better. For those tickets, all stages and fares still apply.

Which type of ticket to buy

When you buy your Northern Pass , you can choose whether you want your ticket to be valid for two hours, one day or seven consecutive days.

2-Hour Pass
Your best choice if you want to take one long journey that involves multiple transfers. It is also a good option if you just need to nip somewhere and back. You only have to board your bus before the two hours expire, so the 2-Hour Pass can allow you to pick up something at the shops, or keep a medical or business appointment.
Day Pass
Ideal for an extended shopping trip, social visit, picnic, or a return commute. The ticket is valid for the entire day on which you buy it, until the last bus or train in the evening.
7-Day Pass
Good option for people who commute regularly, especially if you use different buses or trains. The ticket is valid for any seven-day period you choose, starting on the day you nominate. Within those seven consecutive days - including the weekend - you can make as many trips as you like.
After 9am Pass
Good option for casual day trippers, or if you want to go watch sport at North Harbour Stadium or Eden Park . For the same flat fee this pass allows you to travel around the North Shore (within both Upper and Lower Zones) as well as to and from Auckland City. As the name suggests, this ticket is only available after 9am on normal weekdays, but can be used all day on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

Where to buy

Northern Busway stations, Britomart Transport Centre and Newmarket Train Station Ticket Offices sell the full range of Northern Passes - please refer to Northern Pass ticket agents for a list of opening hours.You can also buy your 2-Hour, After 9am and Day Pass on the bus itself. 7-Day Passes are available on the Northern Express bus service, as well as at designated Northern Pass ticket agents.

Where to use

You can use your Northern Pass on buses anywhere within your specified zone on the North Shore, or to and from Auckland City . In addition, you can use your Northern Pass to travel by train between Britomart and Newmarket and then on to Kingsland or Ellerslie, as well as between Britomart and Glen Innes. This gives you convenient, new travel options if you work in Ellerslie, or in Glen Innes, need to shop in Newmarket, or want to watch sport at Eden Park . For the purposes of the Northern Pass, the North Shore is divided into two zones:

Upper Zone - The following roads are part of the Upper zone: Kyle Rd, Schnapper Rock Rd, Bush Rd, Upper Harbour Highway, Constellation Drive, Maxwelton Drive and Ramsgate Terrace extending up as far as Long Bay and Albany Village.

It includes the suburbs of Rosedale, Mairangi Bay, Murrays Bay, Rothesay Bay, Browns Bay, Torbay, Long Bay, Waiake, Northcross, Pinehill, North Harbour Industrial Estate, Albany, Albany Village, Brookfield.

Lower Zone - This is the area south of the Upper Zone down to the Harbour Bridge . It includes the suburbs of Greenhithe, Unsworth, Meadowood, Totaravale, Sunnynook, Campbells Bay, Castor Bay, Forrest Hill, Wairau Valley, Glenfield, Bayview, Windy Ridge, Marlborough, Hillcrest, Milford, Takapuna, Northcote, Birkenhead, Chatswood, Birkdale, Beach Haven, Hauraki, Belmont, Bayswater, Narrow Neck, Devonport, Cheltenham and Stanley Point.
